Hello Bello!
I'm into my first week of internship now and all I can say is...I miss schooling days. You know those times when you lament during school about the endless piles of seminar questions to complete? And about how you wish you could faster start working so that you no longer need to do presentations/reports/project works? WORK IS LIKE 10x HARDER. Seriously, the amount of excels & reports to do, and the expectations from your supervisors and stuff. I guess it feels harder also because I am the only intern in my department, so I don't have any other interns to 'small-chat' throughout the day. Okay I shall stop here cause no one likes to hear about reports and un-fun work HAHAHAHA
Lower Seletar Reservoir
We had planned to go in the morning as the Singapore weather recently has been: Sunny in the morning, and downpours in the late afternoon. Have decided to explore this area because we always see it from the MRT when it passes by from Khatib to Yio Chu Kang station and it looked so nice and tranquil. But after yesterday, I can only say it's Reality VS Expectations kinda feel.
There is really nothing much to see there. Mostly people jogging/brisk walking. They are probably the residents from the nearby blocks. So I guess if you stay nearby, it's nice to get some sunlight by the reservoir, but other than that...I don't see myself returning.
I'm sorry I don't have pictures to show because I carelessly forgot to take a single picture of the view there (my memory is seriously failing me as i age HAHAHA).
Okay well, I guess I have an OOTD picture if you're interested.

Sushi Express
(Updated 7/7/2016) Lunch was much more exciting than the reservoir trip! Cause...sushi! And the sushi here is only $1.50 per plate (used to be $0.99 per plate a few years back..but you know how inflation screws everything *sad*)

Well, in 2016 at least, I think the deal offered here is pretty worth it. You get:
$1.50/plate for all kinds of sushi (no colour coding discrimination)
Free flow of Green Tea
Free flow of wasabi
1 packet of wet tissue
But the catch is,
you only have 50 minutes to dine.
To be honest, 50 minutes is more than enough because most people leave within 30 minutes after stuffing themselves full. Plus, it means you wouldn't have to wait too long in the queue before you are given a seat!
We went around lunch time and there was a little bit of queue, but we only waited for around 10 minutes (thanks to their crowd management strategy) before it was our turn!
We mainly picked the 'fish' type of sushi which seemed to be more value for money considering they are all at $1.50.
Grilled Salmon Sushi V1

The grilled salmon piece was pretty good! You can taste the taste of the grill after you put it into your mouth!
Grilled Salmon Sushi V2

Honestly, I have no idea what's the difference between this and the first one. They both taste pretty much the same. This also had the 'grilled' taste. But I think this one had a more springy texture. I'm no sushi guru so I can only explain it to you guys in layman terms HAHAHA.
Raw Salmon Sushi

Uni Gunkan

Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they had Uni as part of their selection on the conveyor belt! I always had the perception that Uni was a pretty fancy ingredient so being able to try it at $1.50? TAKE. But obviously, cheaper means it won't be the top grade kind la.
Okay I'm super suaku, don't always eat sushi one but I'll roughly describe how it tasted to me. I deconstructed the gunkan and ate the uni first. It actually was quite...tasteless? The texture was soft and a little springy, but the taste was really mild, and only kicked in towards the back after chewing on it for awhile. But to try something new for $1.50, nothing much to complain about!
Fish with Yellow Crunchy thing?

Please don't punch me!! HAHA I really don't know what is this called. At first I thought the yellow parts were tamago, but turns out it's not! The texture is slightly crunchy but there isn't much taste to it. The fish slice on the other hand is quite chewy. The two different textures mixed together makes an interesting combination!
Flame-Torched Prawn Sushi

THIS IS DAMN YUMMY. REALLY. I think the prawn has a layer of sauce (?) on it, and then the chef used a flametorch to cook the surface of the prawn smothered with sauce. The prawn has a chewy texture, and the sauce is GUD. Must try must try this!!
In conclusion, Sushi Express is definitely a nice place for sushi lovers (that don't need to eat the top grade sushis) to go to because:
1) The price is reasonable @ $1.50/plate
2) Food is reasonably good
3) Queuing times are not unbearably long!
Right right, tomorrow is Monday again which means back to work. Weekends now are so precious.
Till next time!
